Dr Samuel Chen organised a UK-China workshop on 'City Futures and Contemporary Urban Research' at Tsinghua University

In collaboration with colleagues at the University of Oxford, Peking University, and Tsinghua University, Director Dr Samuel Chen organised a UK-China workshop on ‘City Futures and Contemporary Urban Research’ at the Kaifeng Institute of Development Research, Tsinghua University during 11 and 12 July 2018. The workshop brought together more than twenty urban studies scholars and urban planners from the UK and China to address city futures from a variety of perspectives, including regional and urban planning, transport, energy use and carbon emissions, climate change and environment, migration, education, cultural development, and social issues.

Leading experts from major Chinese and UK research institutions and professional organisations, including Capital University of Economics and Business, Hebei University, Manchester University, Peking University, Renmin University, Tsinghua University, Tsinghua Tongheng Urban Planning and Design Institute, the University of Bristol, the University of East Anglia, the University of Oxford, and the University of Essex, attended and gave presentations at the workshop. 

The workshop was funded by the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council and the Kaifeng Foundation.

The event is part of an ongoing effort made by Dr Samuel Chen and his colleagues to promote and facilitate international collaboration on sustainable (urban) development to bring leading professionals and academics together to share best practice and the latest research to tackle some of the major issues facing the modern world.
